CSTN members have built their success largely on unique ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Extensive research and development has gone into all our network products and services to ensure quality and environmental safety.
Along with the development of innovative products and systems, CSTN members are continually fostering joint initiatives with government, strategic partners, and the network's own diverse lines of business, allowing for further creative and sustainable products to be used and developed. Current relationships include a long-term partnership with Atlantic Packaging Products Ltd. that has led to the safe and productive use of paper-fibre biosolids. The network also includes companies with several years of experience in the safe, agricultural use of sewage treatment biosolids in service to the community of Durham Region.
Whether composting organic and yard waste, creating self contained water purification technologies, or reclaiming non-hazardous materials for agricultural use, we are doing our part to preserve natural resources, decrease landfill waste and protect our environment for generations to come.
CSTN member businesses are mandated to conduct internal sampling and testing of lands and products even where not regulated, and all members must operate within an Environmental Quality Management System, based on ISO 14001 standards.
Building on its ISO 9000 series of quality assurance standards for manufacturers, the Geneva based International Organization for Standardization introduced the ISO 14000 series due to the growing concern over poor practices and environmental disasters worldwide. ISO 14001 is one part of the series that deals specifically with the development of an Environmental Quality Management (EQM) system. More and more companies and municipalities are deciding only to do business with organizations that not only claim to have environmentally sound practices, but have taken the proactive step of creating standards and defining their practices in an EQM system
